Watch our new ad: Honesty
August 10, 2010Honesty, not empty promises is the way forward. Doug Racine is the only Democrat who has stood up to Brian Dubie and won — and he’s ready to do it again. Please contribute $25 today to get this ad on the air.
Times Argus: Yankee’s future divides Dubie from the Democrats
August 8, 2010“Sen. Doug Racine of Chittenden County believes it is important to have some context when talking about Vermont Yankee. If the plant operated past 2012, he said, Vermont would get only a fraction of the power offered now at twice the cost.
“Vermont would have a gap to fill,” Racine said. “But it is not the size of the gap that some people think it will be.”
Times Argus: With new fire in the belly, Racine says he’ll pitch truth over promises
August 8, 2010Racine might not be willing to make big promises. Instead, he says, he’ll court voters with his “vision for a better Vermont.”
“It’s a vision where all kids get off to a really good start, a belief that we can build an economy that allows people to work hard and support their families. It’s a vision where we can reduce the rates of abuse and neglect for children, and where we can produce a lot more of our own energy and food,” Racine says. “Those aren’t what I call big promises. Those are what I call vision. And I think it’s one that a lot of Vermonters share.”
vt.Buzz: Racine goes on the offensive
August 6, 2010“While the other candidates claim they are running Vermont-based campaigns, the truth of the matter is that Doug Racine is the only one telling it straight.”
Brattleboro Reformer: Racine hopes being realistic will win state
August 5, 2010“I will tell Vermonters today what the next governor is going to have to tell them next November after the election and next January when we’re presenting a budget,” Racine said. “I think that’s what is distinguishing me. It’s a willingness to take the political risk. It’s a willingness to show leadership and talk to Vermonters in a very straightforward way about the situation we’re in and what, realistically, will get us through it.”
Bennington Banner: Racine: Solutions needed for fiscal woes
August 2, 2010“I will tell Vermonters today what the next governor is going to have to tell them next November after the election and next January when we’re presenting a budget,” Racine said. “I think that’s what is distinguishing me. It’s a willingness to take the political risk. It’s a willingness to show leadership and talk to Vermonters in a very straightforward way about the situation we’re in and what, realistically, will get us through it.”
Times Argus: Cut or backfill the gap?
August 1, 2010“Let’s get real,” [Racine] said. “I am not making those promises. Big promises usually end up being empty promises.”
Cuts also have a way of costing money somewhere else if not done carefully, Racine added.
Waterbury Record: Racine banking on business sense
July 29, 2010The veteran Senator and current candidate for Vermont governor grew up with the family business —Willie Racine’s Inc. Jeep dealership in South Burlington — and he thinks the state can learn a lesson from the trials and tribulations of running a small business.
“When times are good, you put money aside,” Racine, 57, said in an interview with the paper last week. “That’s what our business has been able to do.”

I'm For Doug
Jeanne Collins, Shelburne
“I support Doug for all the right reasons. He is thoughtful, fair and intelligent. He listens and has strong values. His leadership on the child poverty council bears this out. He knows what he is doing and will work hard to get it done. As an educational leader, I can think of none better for governor of VT.”
