Press Release
Racine Moves Health Care Reform Forward
Senate Health and Welfare Committee chairman Doug Racine will introduce a bill today that will design the system that will deliver real health care to Vermonters, and answer all of the questions that need to be answered to implement this new system. The bill will be introduced at 1:30 pm in the committee. The bill will call for the state to hire independent advisors, who will be overseen by a panel of Vermonters, to provide the state with a “menu of options.” These advisors will design three different health care systems—fully design them, not just study them—and deliver back to the legislature a full implementation plan for each of the three possible systems.
Racine Statement on Vermont Yankee
The continuing news of more trititum leaks and the ongoing issue of Vermont Yankee officials lying to Vermonters further reinforces my commitment to vote to shut down this aging nuclear power plant when its license expires in 2012. I was disappointed that Jim Douglas and Brian Dubie want to call a “time-out” to give Entergy the time to mount a public relations campaign to regain the confidence of Vermonters before a vote is held in the legislature. I think this is just plain wrong. Vermonters deserve better.
Racine Statement on Budget Address
We must not accept that we have to sacrifice our neighbors to get through these tough times. It’s when things get tough that we show who we really are. We all agree that more cuts must be made and that government must be more efficient and accountable. However, we must also ensure that government is responsive to the needs of the people it represents.
Racine Statement on Shumlin Announcement
As a partner in my family’s business, I know how important it is to apply sound business practice to the state government. Peter and I share this background, and I look forward to discussions about how we can deliver needed services to Vermont families without cutting front line positions. As a business owner, I also know that the escalating cost of health care must be brought under control if we are going to be able to provide quality jobs and affordable health care to all Vermonters. This will be my focus during the legislative session, and as governor.
Racine Statement on Dunne Announcement
I welcome Matt Dunne into the race for Governor of Vermont. I appreciate Matt’s focus on Vermont’s future. I am hopeful that a Democratic primary will allow a rich discussion on issues that are important to Vermonters – how to restore our middle class by creating jobs and building an economic infrastructure for our state that supports small businesses. A primary race also gives voters a chance to really get involved in the election process, and I am eager to engage with voters and work with them to build on our strengths in Vermont. I am running a real grassroots campaign, and I am welcoming new supporters into my campaign every day.

Doug Racine Statement on Dubie Announcement
I am hearing from Vermonters that they want a change in direction, with a focus on Vermont’s strengths – small businesses, hard working people, and a high quality of life – so that we can all do better, and not just those who are lucky enough to be doing well already. I want all Vermonters to have real opportunities to get ahead, and this is why I am running for Governor.
Racine for Governor Campaign Hires Internet Strategy Consultant
RICHMOND, VT–Gubernatorial candidate Doug Racine announced today that he has contracted with Brendan Bush of Original Gravity Media, Inc., as an internet strategy consultant. Bush, 29, will be working to redesign Racine’s campaign website, develop online outreach materials, and work with field director Amy Shollenberger to add to the campaign’s grassroots outreach strategy.
Racine statement on administration failure to negotiate
Jim Douglas has missed the opportunity to cut costs and save services for Vermonters. Had he worked more cooperatively with state workers, they would have reached a deal weeks ago. The governor should have started the conversation by recognizing the service our state employees give to Vermonters and the need for those services to continue. Putting more people in the unemployment line cannot help our economy, and cutting services when Vermonters need them most makes absolutely no sense. State employees were willing to make sacrifices, but the governor failed to negotiate a settlement which means more Vermont workers will be out on the street.
Racine for Governor Campaign Hires Field Director
MONTPELIER, VT—Sen. Doug Racine announced today that he has hired a Field Director for his gubernatorial campaign. Amy Shollenberger, 38, of Montpelier will head up this effort. “Amy’s background in grassroots organizing and bringing people together around something they care about is important to me,” Racine commented. “She also knows the state well, and will focus on engaging people from every corner of Vermont in our campaign.
I'm For Doug
Brooke Adler, Norwich
“I am supporting Doug Racine, not just because he is committed to important issues for all Vermonters, but also because I believe he can actually deliver results on these goals. The leadership Doug has shown in the state senate, his ability to bring people together, his awareness of how legislation directly affects individuals and families, are among the qualities that will make him a strong and effective governor. Doug is a realist who knows we have a tough road ahead in these economic times, but he believes Vermonters are up to the challenge and that as governor he can lead and inspire us to use our strengths and entrepreneurial spirit to make Vermont a better place for all of us.”
