MONTPELIER, VT—Sen. Doug Racine announced today that he has hired a Field Director for his gubernatorial campaign. Amy Shollenberger, 38, of Montpelier will head up this effort. “Amy’s background in grassroots organizing and bringing people together around something they care about is important to me,” Racine commented. “She also knows the state well, and will focus on engaging people from every corner of Vermont in our campaign.
“Even before Governor Douglas made his decision not to run for re-election, I planned to build a campaign powered by innovative ideas and conversations with Vermonters,” said Racine. “This is what it takes to win elections and restore opportunity for Vermont families. Amy has a history of both of these and makes our campaign even stronger.”
Shollenberger has more than ten years of grassroots organizing, policy, and political issue campaign experience, including work as a press secretary and legislative assistant for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and as a senior policy analyst for Public Citizen’s Critical Mass Energy and Environment Program. In Vermont, she worked for the Lamoille Valley Tobacco Task Force and the Chittenden County Domestic Violence Task Force, and she served as Rural Vermont’s director, where she developed campaigns to increase farmers’ ability to sell products directly to consumers.
“I am excited to be working for Doug,” Shollenberger noted, “He is very strong on issues that I care about, and he is committed to making government work for the people of Vermont to improve opportunities for Vermont families. He also really wants Vermonters to be engaged in his campaign in meaningful ways, and I am eager to begin talking with folks about how they can get involved.”
Shollenberger is the third hiring for the Racine for Governor Campaign. Shollenberger joins Sam Winship of Rutland and Mark Larson of Burlington. The campaign emphasized that Shollenberger’s hiring reflects the growing momentum for Sen. Racine’s campaign.
Doug Racine is a candidate for Governor and a Vermont state senator, chairing the Health and Welfare Committee and serving on the Economic Development Committee. He has served 6 terms in the Senate, including 4 years as President Pro Tem, and also 6 years as Lieutenant Governor. He is a lifelong Vermonter and a small business owner. “I have known Doug since we were kids. I agree with his philosophy on the importance of education for children and the care of the elderly to name a couple. Doug is an honest, intelligent man who is deeply committed to Vermonters and Vermont.”
