RICHMOND, VT — I welcome Matt Dunne into the race for Governor of Vermont. I appreciate Matt’s focus on Vermont’s future. I am hopeful that a Democratic primary will allow a rich discussion on issues that are important to Vermonters – how to restore our middle class by creating jobs and building an economic infrastructure for our state that supports small businesses. A primary race also gives voters a chance to really get involved in the election process, and I am eager to engage with voters and work with them to build on our strengths in Vermont. I am running a real grassroots campaign, and I am welcoming new supporters into my campaign every day.

As I have been meeting with Vermonters over the past several months, they have told me that they want better leadership and experience in the governor’s office. The Douglas-Dubie administration has not only held us back, it has actually harmed our future. This is why I decided to run before Jim Douglas announced that he would not run again. I was eager to run against Jim Douglas, and I am now ready for another successful round with Brian Dubie.

I look forward to the upcoming campaign and the discussion about restoring opportunities to Vermonters. I believe that my background in business and my experience as a 7-term senator and 3-term lt. governor will serve the state well. Voters must decide who has the vision and the experience to make sure our economy is strong, businesses are viable, and all Vermont families have real opportunities.
