RICHMOND, VT — I welcome Peter Shumlin into the race for governor of Vermont. I appreciate his experience and his legislative work. I am sure that Peter’s entry into the field will contribute to a lively discussion of the many issues that are so important to Vermonters.

As a partner in my family’s business, I know how important it is to apply sound business practice to the state government. Peter and I share this background, and I look forward to discussions about how we can deliver needed services to Vermont families without cutting front line positions. As a business owner, I also know that the escalating cost of health care must be brought under control if we are going to be able to provide quality jobs and affordable health care to all Vermonters. This will be my focus during the legislative session, and as governor.

Since I began campaigning in January, Vermonters have shared with me the importance of electing a leader who can move the state forward and deliver real change. A primary can be a good opportunity for voters to evaluate their choices and decide who will deliver on the promises made during the campaign. I trust that my record of leadership on issues important to workers and children, and to our quality of life in Vermont will show my ability to deliver a better future for all Vermonters. I am eager for the discussions to begin, and I am ready to run against Brian Dubie (and win) once again.
